Hello, thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.
As you are probably vaguely aware, following my very enjoyable experience running the Athens marathon in November (as demonstrated by the photo above) I have decided to sign up for a little jog through the desert.
The Marathon des Sables, widely regarded as 'the toughest footrace on earth', is a multi-stage adventure through the Sahara Desert.
As ‘just running’ through the desert would be too easy, the organisers also require you to carry on your back everything that you need to survive (except water).
The race will follow a course equivalent to 6 marathons in 6 days (250 km), with an ultra-marathon (52 miles) chucked in there to do on one of the days for good measure.
The charity that I have chosen to represent and fundraise for is Hope for Children (HOPE). I have included some further information about the charity below:
HOPE is a charity which works towards a world where children’s rights are realised and they can reach their full potential. They actively identify disadvantaged children and communities by working with local partners and endeavour to have a lasting impact on the quality of children’s lives, through helping to build schools, encouraging education, providing essential nutrition and medical attention.
HOPE aim to build a sustainable future for the children and communities they work in. Their focus is to reach as many children as they can and deliver to them the childhood every child deserves. This year alone HOPE has supported over 70,000 children in Africa, Asia and the UK.
I know there are countless fantastic charities out there but I’m sure you’ll agree that HOPE is a very worthwhile cause.
The fact I have decided to take part in such a ridiculous event has given me a superb opportunity to support a great cause. I would be extremely grateful for any donation at all, little or large, it will all help me reach what is a fairly ambitious target.
Thank you all so much in advance.
